13-language Grammy vocalist and violinist Maki Mae headlined crossover performances in major arenas and televised events such as NBC’s America’s Got Talent, Special Olympics World Games, and film soundtracks including A Song for Manzanar screened at the Cannes Film Festival. Her albums featured Robby Krieger of The Doors, Danny Seraphine (Chicago), Ed Roth (Annie Lennox), Hiro Yamamoto (Soundgarden) and John Paris (Earth, Wind & Fire).

Born mostly deaf, Maki performed Beethoven’s Pathetique Piano Sonata at the age of 10, and debuted at 15 performing the Vieuxtamps Violin Concerto at the National Taiwan Recital Hall for the First Lady.

After winning the San Francisco Art Song Festival singing Bellini and Duparc, she performed at the San Francisco Opera Center most notably as Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflote, and was the first Asian to sing Christine in Phantom of the Opera in England. Her opera and violin remix of Skrillex’s “Kyoto” was number one for five weeks on ReverbNation US and Global electronic music charts.

Maki is known for her elaborate coloratura and sustained cuperto (soft high tone), a vocal technique that she has patented and performed for audiences from Queen Paolo of Belgium to Dame Joan Sutherland.  Maki graduated from the Johns Hopkins University, studied with violinist Berl Senofsky at Peabody Conservatory, and trained with Sheri Greenawald at San Francisco Opera and Yefim Maizel at the Metropolitan Opera.
